Minimize scarring

Skin scarring is oftentimes an unfortunate (and unwanted) result of acne, abrasions, burns and surgery. While eliminating scars completely isn't always realistic, you can put together an action plan to keep potential scarring to a minimum.

Apply your lotion the right way

Sometimes we tend to forget that our skin is an intricate organ system that has special needs. Our skin is affected by the environment, changing temperatures and humidity levels. Our skin reacts differently to different products, given that its chemical makeup is varied from one person to the next.

In order to maximize the effectiveness of your skincare products, it's important to learn how to apply them. The way you apply lotion makes all the difference when it comes to absorption of the lotion's active ingredients.

A good rule of thumb is to apply lotion directly following a warm shower or bath. It's a proven fact that moisture locks in the lotion faster than if you apply it to dry skin. The moisture helps to dissolve the active ingredients, which are then absorbed easier. It's also important that you don't scrub yourself dry with a towel; pat yourself down and then apply the lotion.

Don't apply lotion to cold skin. If necessary, pat yourself down with a damp, warm cloth.

Start at your ankles and apply the lotion in an upward motion. It's always important to stroke toward the heart to help stimulate circulation.

When you apply your lotion, be mindful not to rub your skin, which can stretch it out. It is recommended that you use your middle finger and use quick, but firm strokes.

Chanel to launch new men's fragrance

The world of men's fragrance is about to change -- if Chanel has anything to do with it. The powerhouse brand is rolling out Bleu de Chanel this fall, its first men's fragrance since 2004, in an effort to establish a dominant foothold in the market.

Chanel Fragrance and Beaute president Andrea d'Avack said, "Our objective for Bleu de Chanel is to enter the top five in men’s fragrances in 2011,” according to a report by WWD. Blue de Chanel will be a "woody aromatic," something a little different for Chanel as well as current industry trends.

According to reports, Chanel partnered with film director Martin Scorsese to create an advertising film for the new fragrance. "The film is an instant classic but also very modern and perfectly aligned with the image that Chanel wanted to convey with Bleu," d'Avack told WWD.

Surf's up with Roxy Love

Roxy Love perfumeWhere I live there is no surfing. There are mountains, and lots of them. My knowledge of the board-riding culture comes from movies like "Point Break" and "Blue Crush." I find everything about surfing totally rad -- even though I have never tried it -- the beach, the waves, the tan, the sun-bleached hair, the fashion. I'm craving a little of that today, and because I can't go to the beach I thought I'd bring the beach to me -- with a spritz of Roxy Love.
