Applying perfume the right way

applying fragranceIf you're like most people who wear fragrance, you probably spray a little on your neck, spritz some on one wrist, rub it on your other wrist and call it a day. Did you know there is a correct way to apply your fragrance, though?

If you want to get the most out of your fragrance, layer it first with an accompanying body wash or lotion, if available with your favorite fragrance brand. You can apply the body wash in the shower; just make sure to pat yourself dry.

Fragrance hint: Perfume lasts longer on oily skin than it does on dry skin. If you want your perfume to last all day and you tend to have dry skin, dab on some petroleum jelly before you apply your fragrance.

Before you get dressed (so perfume oil will not get on your clothes), apply some perfume to your wrists. And as tempting as it may be, don't rub your wrists together. Why? Fragrance is made to cycle through its top, middle and base notes, and rubbing it into your skin, mixing it with your skin's chemicals, can affect the natural perfume cycle.

Don't stop at the wrists. Apply your perfume just behind your ear lobes, behind your knees, at the base of your throat and above the collarbones, on the inner side of your elbows and even between your breasts. Fragrance hint: Apply a bit of your fragrance to a cotton ball and wear it in your bra. This will help your scent last all day. If necessary, use a Qtip to apply the fragrance. This way you avoid spraying too much.

What to do if you overdo? Fear you've sprayed on too much perfume, but don't have time to take another shower? Experts say to create a paste using baking soda and water, rub it on the over-concentrated area and rinse. Wet wipes, alcohol wipes and hand sanitizer are also life-savers (for you and the people around you)!
